Just as Harris Interactive and The Wall Street Journal announced the results of their Reputation Quotient survey -- which cited Microsoft as the company with the best corporate reputation this year -- a couple of events in the news last week made me think about how one misguided incident can severely damage a company's precious reputation.

Google Inc. is reported to be looking at buying Ottawa company Adscape Media Inc. in a bid to increase its advertising presence, according to a Wall Street Journal report.

Game On! Bidding War over Mills Corp Heats Up with $1.56B Bid 
The Wall Street Journal reports Simon Property Group, the largest retail REIT in the U.S., and Farallon Capital Management, a $26 billion hedge fund, have bid $1.56b for Mills Corp, topping the $1.35b offer Mills had already reached agreement with Canada-based Brookfield Asset Management.
